Pocket watches began to appear in the 16th century and were actually know as pocket clocks at that time. These early versions of the pocket watch were pretty much useless as a timepiece and they could loose hours in one day, so they became more of a fashion statement for the more affluent of society.
It wasn’t until the mid 17th century that the pocket watch became a useful timepiece when the Fusee pulley was used to dramatically improve the timekeeping of pocket watches. The Fusee is attached to the mainspring barrel with a small chain and keeps an even reduction as the mainspring wound down. Although the Fusee mechanism had been used for years before in clocks it wasn’t until the mid 1600s that a Fusee could be made to fit in to a pocket watch and even then these kinds of watches although relatively accurate were bulky.
By the mid 1700s the Fusee was replaced by the Going Barrel by the French and adopted by the Swiss in the 1800s. The English however continued with the Fusee up until the 1900s
The picture on the right show the mechanism of a pocket watch and you can see the Fusee at the top left and the mainspring barrel at the bottom right.
There are many fine examples of early Verge Fusee Pocket Watches for sale on eBay and many are in perfect working order.

Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Watch Review

Welcome to my Omega watch site. My favourite omega watch at the moment is the Omega Ocean Seamaster divers wrist watch which is just so classy and I love it, so I thought I would review it here. I am a bit of a fanatic when it comes to watches, I am always looking for something different, I started many years ago with a Casio (don’t laugh) then moved on to a Citizen then a Seiko then a Rado, I even bought a watch in Spain for about 5 pounds because its was unusual, of course it didn’t last long but it was different and that’s what I personally like in a watch.
Now I am on to the Omega Ocean Seamaster, even the name is fantastic, I don’t like model numbers, give me a great name anytime. Anyway, why did I choose this watch and whats good about it, I will try to explain this in my personal review of this great watch.
So let’s get to the review. If you want a Omega ocean seamaster you have 10 to choose from. This is where the model numbers come in. You have lots of features to choose from such as Seamaster automatic chronometer, self winding, stainless steel straps, rubber or leather straps.

Obviously I am not going to talk about all 10 watches here, so let’s get to the watch that I opted for. I chose the Omega Planet Ocean Seamaster model number 2218.50.00. This watch has the orange bezel that drew me to this particular watch in the first place. It’s got a black dial, chronograph and date and of course a scratch resistant glass face.
As you would expect from a Seamaster, it’s a divers wrist watch, of course you don’t need to be a diver to own this watch, no more than you need to be an astronaut to own the Speedmanster Apollo 11 watch, but if you are a diver its waterproof down to 2000ft.
The Look And Feel of Omega Ocean Seamaster
Well since I choose this particular model you would expect me to say it looks great.
Divers Wrist WatchI personally like the orange bezel mixed in with the black face it’s just a great look for me anyway. In fact my Rado watch had a similar feature, I had a black Rado with an orange digital readout, almost like an LED watch (remember those) and for me it’s just a great look. Of course it wont suit everybody and you can buy the same watch without the orange or if you want more orange you can buy one with an orange leather strap as well.
I personally like the stainless steel straps and this watch is very comfortable to wear. It’s a good weight and a good size with a case diameter of 45.5 millimetres. There are also leather and rubber straps to choose from if you’re not a fan of stainless steel.

Like I said above I will buy a cheap or expensive watch if it’s different than the norm and the technical side has always been secondary to me but I know some people go nuts for the techie side so here we go.

The Gloriously Expensive Breitling Watch Range
